Grocery shopping doesn’t have to be stressful or take up too much time. And if you absolutely don't like going to the grocery store, then use an app like Shipt or Instacart to have your groceries delivered, but just make sure to include that delivery fee in your budget. If you’re a busy woman—especially a teacher juggling work and life—here are 3 simple tips to make your weekly grocery trips easier and more efficient:
1. Plan 3–4 Meals Before You Shop
You don’t have to plan every meal in detail. Just choosing 3–4 dinners you want to make during the week can give your shopping trip clear direction. This way, you buy only what you need for those meals and avoid wandering the aisles unsure of what to pick. Be on mission, on purpose - we don't want to spend more than an hour at the store. It helps reduce impulse buys and ensures you have a plan for busy nights.
2. Use a Category-Based List
Organize your grocery list by store sections like produce, protein, pantry staples, and frozen foods. There are other ways to do it, but this is my personal recommendation. This strategy helps you move efficiently through the store without backtracking for forgotten items and adding five more unnecessary things to your cart. It also keeps you focused and reduces the chance of forgetting something important, making your shopping quicker and less stressful.
3. Pick One Shopping Day a Week
Instead of multiple quick trips, pick one day a week to do all your grocery shopping—Sunday or Monday usually works well and is typical for most people. However when i was a teacher, I would shop on Friday evening right after the bell rings or Saturday morning. I often went grocery shopping on Fridays because I was still riding the momentum of the school week and had a bit more energy to get things done. Plus, I wanted to keep my weekend free to chill with my honey on Saturdays and go to church on Sundays or do nothing. LOL. Having a consistent routine saves you time and energy, plus it helps you avoid last-minute, unplanned runs to the store.
