Rethink your Drink

ree

How many of us can relate to not drinking enough water in the day? Maybe you are someone who just doesn't like the taste of water. As my mom likes to say "It ain't got no flavor!" I understand the struggle. On the other hand, there are some people who do like water, but can't find the time in their schedule to drink it because they are always on the go. In which group do you fall in? I'm going to share with you a few tips on how you can stay hydrated on a daily basis. Im going to challenge you to rethink your drink. Some of the ways that you can stay hydrated don't include just drinking water so keep reading to learn more!

Staying Hydrated with water:

1. Drink ONE glass of water first thing in the morning

What I have noticed is that when I commit to drinking ONE glass of water as soon as I wake up, Im creating a habit. So after a few weeks: I'd like to say 21 days, you won't have to put the 12 reminders on your phone to do it. haha! Well, at least that's the hope. Drinking water first thing in the morning helps flush out the toxins in your body and will increase immunity.

2. Invest in a fun, cute, or fancy water bottle

Look, if you need some aesthetics to help you commit to creating a healthy habit, I'm all for it. Do what you have to do! Amazon has some great options and if you aren't trying to wait for days, then go to Walmart and check out their goodies. It's a cheaper option and you don't have to pay for shipping! There are some pretty cool water bottles that have the times of the day on there so you can use it to set goals for the day.

3. Add flavor to your water

So I am in the pre-diabetic range and one thing I've noticed is that I often have sugar cravings. Even though I want sugar often, having it as frequent as I would like has more damaging effects to my body long term. So I've tried to find other ways to curb that craving in a healthier way. There is a company called Drink LMNT, Inc. that my husband and I love. They sell electrolyte drink mix that has no artificial ingredients or sugar....FOREAL! We love it and highly recommend it especially during a workout. It helps replenish you after sweating a ton. You've got to try it! Please be mindful that the nutrition facts on the back of every product matters. So please stay away from flavored drinks that contain huge amounts of added sugar - that is not helpful in your journey especially if you are trying to lose weight or gain muscle.

Example for Staying Hydrated without water:

1. Pack your plate with vegetables

I know that not everyone is a fan of veggies, but they have many health benefits. Try blending some veggies together and making it into a soup. Eating your veggies that way may be a little easier for those who don't like eating veggies often. Additionally, eating salads are a great option to stay hydrated. Most lettuce greens contain 94% water so packing your plate with items like arugula, lettuce, cabbage is the way to go. Also, if you want to make a salad, try including tomatoes, carrots, and cucumbers for a super hydrating meal. Bell peppers are another great veggie that contains 92% water. If you like bell peppers, add them to your omelette for breakfast, or make stuffed bell peppers for dinner, or eat them raw. You can include bell peppers with many different meals. It will be delicious and nutritious!

2. Dice up some fruit

There are so many fruits that contain a high percentage of water in them. For example, cucumbers, watermelon, lettuce, tomato, zucchini, and more. All of these contain anywhere between 90-99% of water. With that in mind, consider including these fruits into your daily meals. Next time you are preparing your lunch, have a salad with lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and some protein and you're all set.

3. Try carb alternatives

Boy, I love me some pasta but its rare that I eat it now a days. It depends on the day. I normally swap out the pasta for zoodles (zucchini noodles). Have you ever tried them? It's very important that you try to drain out as much of the water as possible before cooking to prevent your pasta dish from being super watery. Like I've mentioned before, zucchini contains a lot of water so even after draining it, you'll still have plenty remaining. Top your zoodles with some Tomato sauce, Vodka sauce, Alfredo sauce, etc. and I believe you won't be disappointed.

Let's do it together: Rethink your Drink! I challenge you to not only drink more water, but also incorporate more hydrating meals into your dietary lifestyle. Try it for two weeks and Im sure you will notice a difference in how you feel and how you look. Although the changes may be minor in the beginning, stick with the new habit and you'll be surprised by the outcome. Let me know how your journey goes!
