At first glance of the title, I'm sure you are thinking that I'm primarily going to focus on meat, but I'm not. Surprisingly, there are other foods that are wonderful sources of protein. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy eating meat, but I also like to switch it up sometimes. You may already eat some of the protein sources that I plan to share here, but if not, try them out. After looking at this list below, try incorporating these protein sources in your diet. If you want a little challenge, you can swap out meat for one of the options I share.
Quinoa
Not only is quinoa a great source of protein, it also has other hard-to-get minerals such as iron and magnesium. Minerals are one of the essential nutrients, but often times, people are not consuming such minerals in their diet on a consistent basis. Quinoa is a great substitute for rice or pasta as well. So if you have a taste for something a bit grainy but prefer a little healthier option, try quinoa. I love quinoa bowls - use the quinoa as the base and all all the veggies you want and then drizzle some cheese and creamy dressing on it. Boom there you have it!
Beans
From kidney beans to soy beans to lentils, including these options in your meals will be a great addition to your daily protein intake. Surprisingly, there are some types of beans that actually have more protein in it than other types of meat.
Eggs
Not only are whole eggs a great source of protein, it is also rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Even though there is a lot of protein in the egg yolk, the egg whites are packed with the most protein. I love egg whites and I'm sure that sounds crazy, but I really do. If you like omelettes, you should try an egg white omelette for a high protein packed meal.
Yogurt
A single serving size of yogurt can have up to 15 grams of protein. I enjoy greek yogurt, specifically Chobani brand. You'll have to try it! Yogurt is also a great alternative for sour cream. I like to add it to my tacos or chili. It's delicious!
Artichoke hearts
Now artichoke hearts don't have a whole lot of protein but there are about 4 grams of protein in a single cup. If you would like more protein in a given meal, by all means add more cups to take it up a notch. You can use them in pasta or a home-made dip! Have you ever tried a creamy artichoke dip? That's a super tasty option for an appetizer or snack during the day.
Let's say you are feeling a little inspired to add more of these protein sources into your diet - well, I can definitely help you create those meals. It's not always easy to curate a meal especially if you don't normally eat the sources of protein that I mentioned above.
